36 DAYS OF CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

For the yearly #36daysoftype 2018 challenge, I tried to showcase some of my loveliest childhood memories through the twenty-six alphabets and ten numbers of the English alphabet. If you are a 90's kid, I hope you can re-live some of these memories through these illustrations!
A
Here is the first one! The most common rhyme I sang during my childhood.
A for Akkad bakkad bambe bo, 80, 90, poore 100!
B
Phoo...Phooo... Phooooo...Phoooooo...Phhaaattt!
As a child I loved balloons! But somehow it always ended like this!
C
As a child, I hated when my Crayons broke. I was very possessive about my stationary. I still am. Letter C depicts my love for crayons, because that is what started my journey towards art!
D
Playing dark room was one of the most fun things to do as a child. When someone would come to find me, I would close my eyes tight, thinking that that won't be able to see me, if I can't see them.
E
Every year my father would take me to the circus. I would love to see the elephants and clowns. Once in grade 12, my dad said he was going to take me to see the circus. I said, 'I'm not a child anymore', to which he said 'you will always be a child for me'. Letter is dedicated to that childhood memory!
F
My fingernails never needed a nail cutter when I was a kid. My mother tried every possible thing so I stop biting my nails. It finally stopped when I finished school I think!
G
And here comes the Genie.. a character that I loved during childhood. Who was your favourite character during childhood? .
H
Letter H is dedicated to Hanse, our dog. Our lives were filled with so much happiness when he was around. No human can make you as happy as a dog can. I miss him!
I
Ink pens were compulsory during school time. No ball point pens or gel pens were allowed. I do believe that using a fountain pen in childhood contributed largely to my good handwriting, and till date, I have all my ink pens from childhood, a pretty good collection of them!
J
Joining the dots, a childhood favourite game!
K
Does anyone remember Kismi? It was so common during our childhood!
L
I’m guessing almost all the people born in the 90s in India must have played this game. Lagori or Lingocha, as I called it, was one of the most fun games!
M
Do you miss going to the Mela? Letter M is dedicated to all the melas that I went to during childhood. It was like a mini picnic full of cotton candy, ice gola, imli, chaat, and lots of games & rides
N
As a kid did you like plain Noodles? I did. But my mom always tricked us by putting so many vegetables. Hated the vegetables then, but love them now!!
O
Letter O is dedicated to all the Ovals that were actually meant to be circles when I drew them in my childhood. Also dedicated to one of my famous pass times - a Spirograph
P
Paper planes were a huge part of my childhood! Origami was and still is so much fun!
Q
Queen, king and ace... ever played raja bhikari in childhood?
R
Rasna, the ultimate childhood drink!
S
The tough decision was whether to throw the sharpener shavings in the dustbin or stuff them in the pencil box. I wish childhood never ended.
T
T for tipri , also known as hopscotch
U
Hanging upside down was so much fun!
V
Drawing vases was an all time favourite, the best was drawing all those patterns on the vase. After the scenery, I think this is what I have drawn most in my childhood.
W
Did you ever make a magic Wand with paper and pretend to be a fairy?
X
Every back benchers pass time game! I will never be too old for X’s and O’s!
Y
I’m sure as a child everyone has made alphabets with hands. The easiest was the letter Y, and the most common was the YMCA dance!
Z
Z is for zig zag lines, the most common way of decorating anything in childhood.
0
Let’s begin with numbers!! Hoola hoop! I wonder if that was for fun or a trick into exercising!
1
Do you guys remember the PHANTOM sugar cigarettes?? And eating them from the white side, to save the red fire like thing?
2
Two handles to one skipping rope. I had a colourful one when I was a kid.
3
How much I loved slinky springs! Did you ever own one?
4
Snakes and ladders, my favourite childhood board game!
5
I loved the colourful birthday streamers, I used them to decorate so many things. I was quite a crafty kid!
6
Birthday whistles!!!
7
Ribbons to our ponytails. Ribbons to our braids. Such an important part of the school uniform. How did you cut the ends of your ribbon?
8
Eight that is inspired from a sand timer (hourglass). Did you have one when you were a kid?? I remember it came with some board game, but I can’t remember which.
9
Nine - Straw and soap that’s all you needed to be happy. Childhood was easy, happy and stress free!
